dramatic black & white: an i heart faces contest entry

This is Emmy, my Jack’s best girl. {That’s him she’s holding on to.} She just turned 5 and has one of the most lovely spirits of anyone – adult or child – that I have ever known. Emmy has made many appearances here on the ol’ blog and I thought this image of her was perfect for this week’s Dramatic Black & White theme at i heart faces. To be completely honest, I had a really hard time deciding on an image to submit this week. There are so many ways to interpret the words dramatic, moody, mysterious. . .but this is my take on it, both the image itself and the edit.

Is there anything more dramatic – more mysterious – than the heart of a little girl? The heart of a some-day young woman?

angles : an i heart faces contest entry

Like lots of other people, I read the theme over at i heart faces this week and thought it said, “angels” instead of “angles”. I have to admit that this photo would have fit either way because these sweet people ARE angels! But, in keeping with the actual theme, I chose this image because of the angle from which I shot – lying on my back in the tall grass, sweating profusely, getting eaten alive by mosquitos. Oh, but it was worth it!

completely candid: i heart faces contest entry

Oh, this was a no-brainer for me!

I have been looking forward to the “Candid” theme at I heart Faces for a while now. I snapped this picture of my son, Jack, and his beloved Emmy at the County Fair this summer. They had waited oh, so patiently in line to ride the Caterpillar {and to get a seat in the front car, no less!}. Let me tell you – It did not disappoint! I snapped this little goodie about 9:30 p.m. – Thank goodness for the flickering fluorescent carnival lights! I was so happy to get this shot, as I had just walked around the corner and raised my camera as they were passing flying by! I added in a little texture and vintage tinting because, for me, there’s something about going to the fair that really feels like a connection to the past.
