dinosaur king is what you wanna be, yeah: halloween 2009

Oh, y’all.

Phillip and I are so blessed. We seriously have the funniest, most adorable, march-to-the-beat-of-your-own-drummer kind of kid in the world! If you know anything about my Jack at all, you know that he has been obsessed with Dinosaurs since the age of two. We have had three dinosaur birthday parties, and we play with and read about dinosaur on a daily basis. Jack has taught me how to say difficult words such as Struthiomimus, Saichania and Therizinosaurus – and doesn’t hesitate to correct me when I get them wrong! His passion for all things pre-historic is quite astounding. About a year ago, we discovered a little anime show on 4kids tv called Dinosaur King. And from that day, it has been at the top of Jack’s Cool List. The main character of the show is a 12 year-old boy named Max Taylor. Max and all of his adventures quickly became the topic of many conversations with Jack and after a while, he became Jack’s first imaginary friend. We oftentimes take Max {as well as Rex and Zoe – Max’s two best friends} to the grocery or to school with us. It’s nice because they don’t need their own carseats!

When the subject of Jack’s Halloween costume came up this year, it was a no-brainer. MAX TAYLOR! Was there really any other choice?

Phillip and I had a blast pulling all the elements of Max’s crazy outfit together. Phillip snagged the orange pants and red hoodie at Goodwill. The shoes were on clearance at Old Navy. They were gray, so I painted them red with fabric paint. His hair is actually “Spirit Hair” that we picked up at the Alabama game last weekend. It, too, was gray so I used brown spray paint to gloss & spike it up just like Max’s! Max has a Triceratops named Chomp for a pet, and he also wears a visor with Triceratops horns. I used white styrofoam cones and shaved them down for our own version of those horns. The bag & gloves are courtesy of Target and the T-Rex tooth attached to the bag is actually a shark’s tooth that my dad gave to Jack. And then - the Dino Holder – Max’s blue space age apparatus that tracks dinosaurs and does other stuff that I don’t really understand but my five year old does. They don’t sell Dinosaur King toys here in the states, so we had to order Jack’s Dino Holder from Jolly Old England. Homemade costumes are so fun!

Oh, my sweet Jack. You are such a joy! I adore everything about you. I salute your individuality and loved the fact that we had to carry around a picture of Max Taylor tonight at Trunk-or-Treat just so people would know who you were supposed to be! You are a terrific kid and your daddy and I couldn’t be more proud.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, everyone!!
