legacy

Photography means so much to me. Great photography, to me, doesn’t just document what a person looks like at a certain time. Great, meaningful photography literally captures a slice of time. It freezes an emotion and preserves it for the future. It is my goal to produce images for families that will allow them to look back years later and re-claim a feeling, an emotion, a moment that will never be again.

Our little family has experienced its fair share of loss over the past few years. When Jack was two, we lost Phillip’s grandpa, who was known to everyone as Gamp. In January of this year, my precious, 96 year old grandmother passed away and then in March, we buried Phillip’s equally precious grandmother after a long, brave battle with cancer. As strange as it may sound, I wanted to do something to preserve this time in our lives. To allow us to look back and remember those we have lost, but also be able to see the hope that carries us on. Because Gamp and I had the same size feet, I was the lucky one who inherited several pair of his boots. In thinking about this season of our lives, I had the idea to incorporate those boots into some photos with Jack. The big “J” is for Jack, but also for Jackson – his full first name and the maiden name of his Gannie that we just lost. The camera I used to shoot was a gift from Jack’s Granny Ma, my grandmother whom I miss very much. Now, when I look at these images, they make me feel. I ache for the losses that we have had, but I am also reminded that life – and the legacy that these three beautiful people left behind – goes on. It goes on every time I click the shutter, every time my husband sings, every time my little boy laughs. These photos give me hope.
