the red door: kindergarten, part one

My little dude started Kindergarten today. My baby. My Jack-a-bee. My best buddy. My constant companion for the last five years. Phillip and I are so incredibly proud of the little man he has become and is still becoming. I actually made it thru the day without crying – probably because I cried for hours last night as I was labeling and packing up all of his school supplies! I really wanted today to be all about him – and the exciting adventure that lies ahead for the next nine months. He could not be happier, or more ready for the journey.

We are blessed that Jack will be attending Kindergarten at the same precious place where he attended pre-school for the last three years. It is such a sweet little school, and it just so happens to have a fabulous red door. (Of course, as a photographer, this is VERY important to me. Don’t act surprised!) I snapped Jack’s picture in front of that door two years ago, in August of 2007. And I did it again this morning, August 12, 2009. When I look at the changes in him, I am overcome with emotion. When I think of the things about him that have not changed – I am equally as emotional. His kind heart, his exuberance for life, his deep love of friends and family, his ability to charm anyone and melt the heart of everyone he meets.

Jack, your momma and daddy love you more than you can imagine. As you grow and take those baby steps away from us, I always want you to remember that the good Lord made you perfect according to His purposes. Keep looking up, baby boy. He will never leave your side!
